Medicare Medication and Prescription Drugs Coverage

About nine in 10 U.S. adults over 65 take prescription drugs, but these medications are generally not covered by Original Medicare (Parts A and B). To get help with the costs of most prescriptions, you need either a Medicare Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage prescription drug plan from a private insurance carrier.

Regulatory changes have taken steps to make covered drugs more affordable, such as limiting the cost of insulin, enabling Medicare to negotiate prices, and setting an annual cap on out-of-pocket spending. Learn more about what you can get out of Medicare Part D coverage by reading our articles.
